Our kind and beloved, Ruby Josephine Nielsen Thompson, age 90, of Salina, died Sunday, October 25, 1998 in Richfield, Utah.

She was born February 26, 1908 in Salina, a daughter of John D. and Merinda Mickelsen Nielsen. She married Merrill LeRoy Thompson May 21, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple, March 11, 1938. She was an active member of the L.D.S. Church. She served as Relief Society President two different times and Primary President in her ward. She served as the Stake Relief Society President in the North Sevier Stake for eight years. She and her husband, Merrill, worked as ordinance workers in the Manti Temple for eight years. Josephine enjoyed quilting, crocheting and all sorts of handiwork. She also enjoyed her flower garden.She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Merrill L. Thompson of Salina; children: Bryan Dale and Teresa Thompson of Aurora; Denny DeVaughn and Monty Gay Thompson of West Valley City; Doreen Thompson of Provo; 13 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: LaMar Nielsen of Ephraim and Leo Nielsen of Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by a son, Val Merrill Thompson; a grandson, Kenneth Dale Thompson, a brother: John Leland Nielsen and two sisters: Chloe Nielsen and Mary Nielsen.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 28, 1998 at 1 p.m. in the Salina L.D.S. Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Wednesday morning from 11 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
