Our beloved dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Merrill LeRoy Thompson, age 95, of Salina, died July 20, 2001 in Provo, Utah.

He was born Oct 31, 1905 in Ephraim, UT the last of nine children born to Jens and Anna

Bergetta Poulsen Thompson. He married Ruby Josephine Nielsen May 21, 1927 in Salt Lake City, UT. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple March 11, 1938. She died Oct 25, 1998. Merrill worked as a master electrician for Telluride and later for US Gypsum, where he retired. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as bishop of the then, Salina 2nd Ward and as a temple ordinance worker in the Manti Temple for many years. He was a high priest in the Salina 4th Ward. Merrill was also active in the Salina Senior Citizens.

He is survived by two sons, Bryan and Teresa Thompson, Aurora, Denny and Monty Gay Thompson, West Valley City; daughter-in-law, Doreen Thompson, Provo; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 11 great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Val Thompson; one grandson, Kenny; and eight siblings.

Services will be Wed. July 25, 2001, 12 noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 W. 400 N, Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Tues. 7-9 p.m. and at the stake center Wed. 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial, Salina Eastside Cemetery.
